Why Heat an Enclosure?
Every enclosure has it’s own set of unique challenges. In pumphouses, freezing pipes can have devastating consequences, while in electrical enclosures excess moisture can be harmful to expensive electronic components.
For over 50 years, customers have relied on King’s U Series enclosure heaters (sometime referred to as pumphouse heaters) to prevent freezing and condensation in electrical and mechanical housings.
Having the radiant heat absorbed by the metal equipment makes this heater more effective than convection heaters and the built-in thermostat turns off when the ambient temperature is safely above freezing.
The U series is a simple and reliable solution, with no moving parts to wear out or maintain, making it an inexpensive choice for freeze protection. Specifically designed to operate in both horizontal and vertical (up to 500W max) positions.
Moisture and Failure
Moisture, especially when combined with aggressive gases and dust, causes atmospheric corrosion and can result in the failure of components such as circuit breakers, busbars, relays, integrated circuit boards and transformers. The greatest danger lies in conditions where electronic equipment is exposed to relatively high air humidity or extreme variations in temperature, such as day-and-night operation or outdoor installation.
Eliminate Moisture
Moisture and corrosion will remain low if relative air humidity stays below 60%. However, relative humidity above 65% will significantly increase moisture and corrosion problems. This can be prevented by keeping the environment inside an enclosure at a temperature as little as 9°F (5°C) higher than that of the ambient air. Constant temperatures are a necessity to guarantee optimal operating conditions. Continuous temperature changes not only create condensation but they reduce the life expectancy of electronic components significantly.
Freeze Prevention
Designed to prevent moisture and keep pumps, valves, and farm machinery from freezing, enclosure heaters also provide excellent freeze protection for instrument supply gas, regulators, valves and metering equipment. They can also be used to provide heat for housing batteries, radio controls and other moisture sensitive equipment.
