WHAT IS A PLENUM?
In building construction Plenum is a separate space provided for air circulation for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning, providing pathways for either heated/conditioned or return airflows, usually at greater than atmospheric pressure. It is commonly found in the space between the structural ceiling and a drop-down ceiling or under a raised floor. In commercial settings such as schools or office buildings, the plenum space is often used to house connecting communication cables and other mechanical systems as well.
Products installed in those air-handling spaces must conform to a higher safety standard.

King offers 2 unique heaters designed for use in concealed plenum spaces of commercial buildings, meeting the stringent standards established by the city of Chicago.
KBU PlatinumX and CKL Plenum Rated Unit Heaters are certified to comply with the UL standard for Heating and Cooling Equipment ANSI/UL 1995, fourth edition, including the stringent standards established by the City of Chicago, and are rated for plenum applications.
Designed for high rise and office buildings, schools, factories, auto body shops, food processing plants, plating shops and machine shops, these heaters are ideal for inaccessible areas such as open plenums or spaces between concrete and drop tile ceilings.
KBU PlatinumX and CKL heaters are safety rated for Zero Clearance to surfaces on the sides, top and bottom of the cabinet. Both are designed for horizontal, suspended mounting. CKL heaters can be rotated on their axis as needed, while KBU PlatinumX heaters require an optional swivel bracket for swivel adjustment.
KBU PlatinumX and CKL Plenum Heaters can be installed for free air discharge. CKL heaters can also connect to existing ductwork for building extensions, helping reduce installation time and cost.
Both models feature high mass steel finned heat exchangers that promote even air distribution, cooler element operating temperatures and longer heater life. CKL models use a high CFM dual inlet blower design, while KBU PlatinumX models use a unit bearing motor with an axial fan.
CKL heaters feature a totally enclosed motor, filter racks and N.E.M.A. 12 Construction for dirty, dusty, moist or mildly corrosive environments. KBU PlatinumX heaters are built with a unit bearing motor and axial fan design.
Because KBU PlatinumX and CKL heaters are typically installed in inaccessible areas, a 24V control circuit allows operation with a standard low voltage thermostat or connection to a Building Automation System.
KBU PlatinumX and CKL heaters are proudly made in the USA with U.S. and global materials.
